Does Hugging Face Inference Providers attach a C2PA manifest or a watermark?

Hugging Face's Inference Providers route image and video generation to partner platforms, among them fal, Replicate and Together, so what arrives depends on which partner served the call: fal's hosted applications sign as fal, the others attach nothing. The Inference Providers documentation says nothing about Content Credentials, C2PA or watermarks, as searched on 12 October 2026. Its terms carry an effective date of 15 September 2022 and predate the AI Act; the compliance clause is the general one.

What do Hugging Face Inference Providers's terms say about who is responsible?

The terms were last updated on 15 September 2022. Two clauses matter here:

"You are solely responsible for the Content you post, publish, display or otherwise make available on our Website." — Hugging Face Terms of Service, Your Content, read 12 October 2026

"all applicable laws or regulations in the relevant jurisdiction(s)" — Hugging Face Terms of Service, Your Use of the Services, read 12 October 2026

So who is the provider under Article 50(2)?

The Commission's guidelines on Article 50, adopted on 20 July 2026, treat a business that integrates a model by API into its own user-facing system as the provider of that AI system, answerable under Article 50(2) for what the system generates (our reading of 8 October 2026, shared by the law-firm notes we have seen). Hugging Face Inference Providers's terms point the same way. So if your users see images, audio or video that Hugging Face Inference Providers generated for you, the marking obligation is yours, and it is not discharged by anything Hugging Face Inference Providers attaches.

What this means if you generate through Hugging Face Inference Providers

A routed call is the hardest case for a consistent record: the same request can be served by different partners on different days, with different marking. The only record that is the same every time is one you add yourself, in your own name, after the response comes back.

SignUnder is built to sit in front of APIs like this one and sign every output under your own name, with an invisible watermark and a public verification page; it is pre-launch, and the waitlist is on the homepage.

Questions

Does Hugging Face Inference add Content Credentials to generated images?
Not itself. Calls are routed to partner platforms; as read on 12 October 2026, only fal signs, and as fal, for its hosted applications. Hugging Face's own terms and documentation say nothing about marking.
Who is responsible for Article 50(2) marking when I generate through Inference Providers?
You are, if the model sits inside your own user-facing product: the Commission's guidelines treat the integrator as the provider, and Hugging Face's terms make you solely responsible for your content.
Does Hugging Face offer EU-region processing for inference?
We could not confirm it from a primary page on 8 October 2026; UNVERIFIED.
