Do AI images need a label on Instagram and Facebook?

Not from you: Meta's labelling duty covers photorealistic video and realistic-sounding audio, not images. Meta labels images "AI Info" itself when it detects industry-standard indicators such as the C2PA and IPTC metadata in a signed manifest.

Meta labels marked content "AI Info"

As of 12 October 2026

Meta labels images "AI Info" when it detects industry-standard indicators, including the C2PA and IPTC metadata that a signed manifest carries.

“These labels are now displayed as 'AI Info'”

Not confirmed: Whether the manifest and watermark survive in the file after upload, and what Meta shows for an untrusted signer, are not stated; we are measuring them.
