Do I have to disclose AI-generated video on YouTube?

Yes, when AI meaningfully alters or generates photorealistic content: YouTube requires you to say so in YouTube Studio's "AI use" question. An upload carrying C2PA metadata is labelled automatically, and you cannot remove that label.

What you need

  • The platform’s AI label when you post

Platform rules for what you post

Each platform’s own policy; breaking it risks labels, removal or penalties on that platform.

YouTube: disclose realistic AI content in the upload flow

In force since 12 October 2026

YouTube requires creators to disclose when AI meaningfully alters or generates photorealistic content, by answering the "AI use" question in YouTube Studio. Disclosing does not limit reach or earnings; repeatedly not disclosing can lead to a label, removal or Partner Program suspension.

“we require creators to disclose when they use AI to meaningfully alter or generate photorealistic content”

What platforms do with marked content

Not duties: what happens to your content when it carries Content Credentials.

YouTube labels uploads that carry C2PA metadata

As of 12 October 2026

YouTube may label content containing C2PA metadata automatically, and a creator cannot remove a label that C2PA metadata triggered.

“content made with YouTube's AI tools, content with C2PA metadata, or content labeled after manual review cannot be adjusted”

SignUnder does the marking for you
